Requirements at a glance

A finished China visa photo measures 33 × 48 mm (1.3 × 1.9 in). Printed at 300 dpi that is 390 × 567 pixels.

The head, measured from the chin to the top of the hair, must be 28–33 mm tall, about 64% of the photo height. idphotopass aims for 30.5 mm, the middle of that range.

The eyes must sit 26–32 mm above the bottom edge of the photo, so the face is centred with space above the head.

The background must be white (#FFFFFF), plain and evenly lit, with no shadows, patterns or other people. idphotopass replaces the background with this colour automatically.

Face the camera straight on with a neutral expression, mouth closed and both eyes open and clearly visible. Avoid glare on glasses, and do not wear hats or head coverings unless for religious or medical reasons. Wear everyday clothes that contrast with the background.

Before you download, idphotopass checks the head height, eye position, face angle, brightness and background against the China visa rules and tells you what to fix.

How to make a China visa photo

  1. Open the editor with the China visa spec selected.
  2. Choose a photo from your phone or computer (JPG, PNG or HEIC). It is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
  3. The face is detected and the photo is cropped to 33 × 48 mm with the head and eyes at the required heights. Adjust zoom and position if needed.
  4. The background is replaced with white and the result is checked against the rules.
  5. Download the single photo, or a 4×6 in (10×15 cm) print sheet with several copies and cut lines.
